Add Message Modules into your study design

Updated over a year ago

Within the GroupSolver platform, you can add Message Modules to your survey design. Including Message Modules is an effective way to communicate instructions, prompts, and questions to your respondents. Additionally, Message Modules can be used to show an image with or without a caption.

Building a New Message Module:

To add a Message Module, click on the "+" sign where you want to add the message. Click the "Message" option to add a Message Module.

Finally, type your message in the Message box. You also can click on the "Media Manager" icon to upload visuals.

Seconds to Read:

Below your message, the "Seconds to Read" box represents how long the message will appear for respondents before the following message or module in your flow appears.

The default is set to one second—this should be changed for longer messages. Generally, we recommend one second per sentence. It would be best to separate long messages with many sentences into multiple Message Modules.

Image Options:

If you add an Image, there will be various settings that you may change depending on your intention.

Activating "Stop for review" means any other modules will not follow the Message Module with your image in the flow until the respondent clicks on the image to review it. After the respondent clicks on the image, a "Proceed" button will appear. This must be selected to continue the study.

Activating "Stop for review" adds new parameters to be altered.

The "Proceed" button label enables you to change the wording of the "Proceed" button to fit your needs.

The "Proceed button enabled immediately" slider allows you to make the "Proceed" button available to respondents immediately or lock it for a set number of seconds.

The "Auto-proceed" toggle enables you to prevent your respondents from clicking on the "Proceed" button after the image is reviewed—the window will be automatically closed after a specific number of seconds that you may customize (1-60 seconds). Respondents will then be directed back to the study flow.

The "Start in fullscreen view" toggle lets you zoom the image automatically without waiting for the respondent to click.

The "Blur before first view" toggle enables you to hide your image from respondents until they click on it.

The "Disable after first view" toggle enables you to prevent respondents from seeing the image for the second time. Once this is enabled, respondents can expand the image only once.
