Learn more about the stages of your study

Updated over a week ago

Studies coded on the GroupSolver Dashboard have five possible statuses: Draft, Collecting Data, Paused, Solved, and Archived. On your account homepage, you can see the status of each of your studies, and you can change the status after opening a study.

Finding & Filtering Study stages:

You can find the study stage by clicking on the account homepage where the study was created.

There are two ways to see the study stage:

1. The stage is listed underneath each study name and has a unique image representing that stage.

2. After opening up a study and entering the Study design, the stage is located underneath the study name.

Note: On your account homepage, you can filter the studies shown by their study stage:

  1. Click the dropdown menu, which will default to “All studies” after loading the account homepage.

  2. The dropdown menu will show all statuses of the studies in your account.

  3. Select the status you’re looking for, and the study list will filter only to show that status.

Draft

When you create a new study, it will immediately enter draft status. A study must remain in draft status during the building and testing phases. It is the ONLY study state where survey elements and modules can be edited.

Note: The studies that have never been launched stay in the "Draft" stage.

Collecting Data

A “collecting data” study means it has begun to collect respondents. When the study is in the "collecting data" stage, you can only perform minor adjustments in the study design. It is possible to edit the wording of the question/option to allow for correcting possible grammatical errors. You can also edit the option codes to fix potential mistakes in the study design.

Notes:

  • Before launching the study for data collection, please ensure you’ve tested your study several times and finalized all pre-launch prep.

  • During this state, you can view and analyze data collected in real time without interrupting data collection.

  • Once the specified number of completes has been reached, the study will automatically switch into the "Solved" state. Anyone who clicks on the study's link will receive a notification stating that the study is closed.

Paused

The live study can be paused at any time. No new respondents will be allowed to enter the survey until you resume collection. However, respondents already in the study will be allowed to complete their sessions.

This state is useful if issues are discovered after a study has begun collecting or if you want to finish collection early.

If you need to pause the collection for any reason, you can just open the particular study. Select “Pause study," located in the far right corner of your study.

All reporting features are still available while the study is Paused. From this state, studies may be solved manually by clicking “Solve study” or resume collecting data by clicking on “Resume collection."

Solved

The solved state is when a study is permanently finished collecting data. No more data may be collected, and the study is complete.

The platform will automatically switch a study into the solved state when the requested number of completes is met. You may also manually solve a paused study at any time to complete the collection by pressing “Solve study."

Archived

Archived studies are generally older, completed studies that are no longer useful to the account. Once a study is archived, the user can no longer access the flow or visual reports and can only download the data. Archiving is voluntary unless the account’s license has expired or the account holder is no longer a client of GroupSolver. In these cases, studies are automatically archived.

Archive a solved study by opening that study and pressing “Archive.”
