Control your sample by setting quotas

Updated over 2 years ago

Quotas allow you to control your sample by setting the maximum number of respondents that meet specific criteria which are allowed to complete the study.

To add a quota module, click on the "+" sign where you want to add the quota. Click the "Flow" option and then click the "Quota" option to add the module.

Note: There must be at least one choice question before you may add the Quota Module.

Under "Conditional branch name," type in a name for this quota. Once the study is launched, the name will be used in the Quotas Statistics section under Study Statistics in the "Audience" tab.

Under "Units," choose how you want the quota to be calculated:

"Percent" Quota allows you to control the composition of a sample by setting the percentage of respondent meeting specific criteria allowed to enter the study during the fielding of the study.

Unlike the "Percent" Quota, which controls sample composition throughout fielding, the "Completes" Quota only sets the maximum limit regardless of when that limit may be reached. Once the maximum value of the quota is met, respondents who meet the specified criteria will be terminated from the study.

Under "Limit value," set the maximum quota value of qualified quota respondents.

Build the Condition that qualifies a respondent for this quota.

If you are building a negative condition using the "is not" setting, an option will appear that asks if you want to "Count respondents who did not see the question." Check this option if you are building a quota on a condition or a choice question that may not be shown to all respondents in the study (i.e., the choice question/condition is inside a conditional branch). Also, select this option if you want respondents who did not see the question to be counted for the quota.

To build a minimum quota (i.e., targeting "at least" a certain number of qualified quota respondents), you must convert the minimum quota to a maximum quota of those who do not qualify for your target minimum quota. For example, if you field a study with 300 total respondents and want to target at least 100 males, you must set a maximum quota of 200 non-males.

-Set your "Limit value" to the maximum number of respondents who do not qualify for your target quota.

-General formula: Total sample size – Target number of qualified quota respondents = Maximum quota value.

-Example: 300 total respondents – 100 males = 200 non-males maximum quota value.
